A Preview of What’s to Come
Before we launch into all of this new content you’re going to be enjoying in the upcoming months and years, we wanted to give you a quick preview of what you can expect.
Since the year 2000, we’ve been your go to place for custom patches. Whether you needed a new accessory for your backpack, your biker’s jacket or even just new patches for your employee uniforms. Now we’re looking to take all that we’ve learned over the years and turn it into entertaining and informative blogs to be posted twice a month.
We’ll cover some of the following topics:
- How your favorite patches are made
- Custom PVC Patches and their unique uses
- Custom Embroidered Patches and the strength of a classic
- When the best time to choose a Custom Woven Patch might be
- Specifics about the new and interesting ways other customers are using their patches
All of this and a lot more will be coming to you in the upcoming months. In the meantime, if you’re new to the world of custom patches, here’s a primer.
Different Types of Custom Patches
To someone who doesn’t have much experience with patches, it might be surprising to hear that there are different options for getting a patch made. But the reality is not all patches are created equal. If you’re looking for a quick primer on each of the different types of patches we create, here’s what you need to know.
Custom Embroidered Patches
With options for up to 100% or up to 75% thread coverage, embroidered patches are the most popular patch option we offer. If you’re looking for a classic patch, look no further than a custom embroidered patch.
Custom Woven Patches
Woven and embroidered patches are similar, but the thinner thread used on woven patches creates differences in texture and appearance, allowing woven patches to capture artwork with a finer level of detail.
Custom PVC Patches
PVC patches aren’t created with thread at all but through PVC being poured into a custom-made mold and allowed to dry. This allows for custom 3D shapes and design details. The sturdy PVC material is also a lot more weather resistant.
Heat Transfer Patches
Heat transfer patches are created through a process called dye sublimation. It’s a process that allows for even more detail and picture-perfect patches. Much like the PVC patches, heat transfer patches use no thread in their construction.
Leather Patches
If you’re looking for a slightly more rugged look, our synthetic leather patches are the way to go. Your custom design is pressed into the patch through our die striking process.
Different Attachment Options
Getting your patch is one thing, getting it to stay in place is another. For a lot of people, ordering patches can be daunting because of this consideration, but the truth is you don’t need a professional seamstress to attach your patch. While we do recommend sewing your patch into place for the most secure attachment, doing so is remarkably easy, and we offer a number of different attachment options besides. We’ll go into greater detail on each in the coming months, but for now, here’s a quick explanation.
No Backing and PVC Backing
These common options are among the most popular. They also require being sewn into place. The PVC backing, not to be confused with the entire PVC patch, is used to create a sturdier patch. It’s also the default option when no other option is specified.
Iron On Backing
If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to attach your patch, iron on patches are certainly the way to go. You’ll still want to sew the patch into place, but the iron on connection gives you time to have your patch in place before doing so.
Peel and Stick Backing
Created for a temporary option or a quick solution to an immediate problem, peel and stick backed patches are easy enough that anyone can adhere them, but they clearly aren’t intended to last.
Hook and Loop Backing
More commonly referred to as Velcro, hook and loop backing is perfect for patches intended to be removed and replaced regularly.
Stick Around For the Ride
